Cooperative Outreach & Engagement Specialist

Kansas Farmers Union, in cooperation with NCBA CLUSA, Common Ground Producers & Growers, and Missouri Farmers Union, seeks to hire a Cooperative Outreach & Engagement Specialist to support the Homegrown Prosperity grant.


Position Overview
The Cooperative Outreach & Engagement Specialist serves as a front-facing
representative of Kansas Farmers Union, supporting outreach, education, and
relationship-building efforts connected to the Homegrown Prosperity grant. This position
focuses on communication, coordination, and community engagement—helping
connect farmers, ranchers, community leaders, and partner organizations to
cooperative education and resources.


The specialist will organize meetings and events, communicate clearly about
cooperative opportunities, support trainings and workshops, and help ensure Kansas
Farmers Union is a trusted, welcoming, and professional presence across rural Kansas
and Missouri. Deep technical expertise in cooperative development is not required;
training and support will be provided. Familiarity or curiosity about cooperative business
models is welcome.


Key Responsibilities

  • Represent consortium organizations professionally at meetings, workshops, conferences, and community events

  • Coordinate and support meetings, trainings, and outreach activities (logistics, scheduling, follow-up, materials)

  • Communicate clearly about cooperative opportunities, programs, and resources to diverse audiences

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with farmers, ranchers, rural communities, partner organizations, and educators

  • Assist with outreach materials, presentations, and basic communications (email, flyers, talking points, social media support as needed)

  • Support partner organizations and trainers during cooperative education activities

  • Travel regularly throughout Kansas and Missouri to support in-person engagement

  • Track outreach activities and provide basic reporting for grant requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Background or experience in communications, outreach, education, 4-H,

  • Extension, public speaking, or community engagement

  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort speaking with individuals and groups

  • Ability to organize meetings, manage schedules, and follow through on details

  • Interest in agriculture, rural communities, and farmer-led initiatives

  • Professional, reliable, and positive representative of Kansas Farmers Union

  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with cooperative business models or farmer-owned organizations a plus although not required, training will be provided

  • Experience working with farmers, ranchers, youth programs, or rural organizations

  • Experience supporting workshops, trainings, or community events

  • Basic experience with outreach communications or educational materials

  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities

 

Position Details

  • Salary range: $40,000 – $50,000, commensurate with experience

  • Start date: March 2026 (negotiable)

  • Status: Full-time

  • Work location: Hybrid, with the option to work from the Kansas Farmers Union office in McPherson, Kansas

  • Term: Two-year grant-funded position
