KFU Board of Directors Statement on Data Centers

Since 1907, Kansas Farmers Union has worked to protect and enhance the economic interests and quality of life for family farmers, ranchers, and their communities.

The moral and ethical decisions made by individuals and governments have an impact on our daily lives, and on the lives of future generations.

Farmers Union’s policy strives to ensure those decisions maintain a just and ethical basis. Our policy also addresses the use of our natural resources and environment with the same fervor.

With that in mind, Kansas Farmers Union’s Board of Directors unequivocally supports National Farmers Union’s (NFU’s) 2026 Policy and Action Statement on data centers which calls for local oversight over data center development proposals requiring an affirmative vote from impacted voters prior to any approval or permitting.

The policy opposes:

·      The development of data centers that increase local electricity rates, cause brownouts, contaminate or deplete water supplies, or exacerbate contamination of water supplies;

·      The siting of data centers on productive soils;

·      Subsidies or tax credits/breaks for construction and operation of data centers; and

·      Nondisclosure agreements regarding data centers.
